On the Ground
What would it be like to spend four days in a forest with people I didn’t know? Would I have missed the comforts I now relied on so much in the city?
Millions invested to revitalize the country, for major infrastructure such as the bridge over the Strait that will finally connect Sicily to the rest of Italy. But unless we seriously begin to demand that every last penny be spent on land protection, on reforestation, on restoring fertility to a dying land, on preserving what remains of the island that was once “the garden of the Mediterranean,” before long, too little, there will be little to connect.
Our intent is to connect with the identified realities, understand the needs and build a network so that they can still act for the good of the community, in contact with the Earth
Teacher Federica and “our” Paolo Ciarimboli are among the founders of the Pergola School Garden project and are the ones who most often involved us in the wonder of the educational discoveries that the garden activities were producing.

“Tucked away in the woods around Genoa is an agro-ecology company that produces food without consuming soil and the energy is 0 km. Welcome to Tabacca, the sustainable community where the future is planned, everything is possible, and we stand together to come out different.”

The project revolves around the idea of reorganising a cheese production trade, which was started 10 years ago with a few goats (presently a herd of 60) by Attilio, a native of the village of Tufillo. The Fattoria Fonte Trocchi is collaborating trough the purchase of 2/3 of the goats and is contributing with two new workers (Federica and Tullio) and occasionally other participants such as woofers and potential new workers on trial. We will collaborate with the Corpo Forestale (Forestry Department) to determine the areas of woodland and scrubland where firebreaks can be created through goat grazing, with Saverio Danubio, a biotechnologist, for the management of the goat manure in an insect-composting plant, and with local farmers for hay and oat supplies during periods when grazing is not sufficient.
The time of the resumption is coming and, as often happens, moving the hands free from deadlines and tasks has led to new enlightenment.
