I had gotten to know him by reading his “The Social Conquest of the Earth.”<\/a> defined “the most important story of social, animal and human evolution in recent years.”<\/em>; in May 2022 a short but enlightening one came out. profile<\/a> on Rural Seeds Network Newsletter No. 30, celebrating him among the founders of the Biodiversity concept.<\/p>\n\n

It is here that I found Wilson’s phrase “altruism is necessary for the survival of human societies,”<\/em> which reminds me of one of the motivations that prompted me to get involved in agriculture, community and WWOOF\/Rural Seed Network back in the day.<\/p>\n\n

Today on the #ChangeAgriculture Coalition<\/a> chat, Franco Ferroni pointed us to a Wikiradio podcast that picks up the thread of Wilson’s scientific and philosophical journey through Telmo Pievani’s exciting account.<\/p>\n\n

It seemed like a nice gift to offer our community in this early year when I imagine many among us will struggle between an optimistic and a pessimistic view of the fate of humanity. <\/p>\n\n
