The course aims to broaden participants’ knowledge on the topic of conservation and breeding of horticultural plant genetic lines.<\/p>\n\n
The topics covered, in addition to encouraging the grower to multiply horticultural biodiversity in his or her agroecosystem, will provide useful notions for understanding the functioning of gamic reproduction of plants.<\/p>\n\n
General principles of biology and genetics of major vegetable garden species will be shared, and experience will be gained on genetic improvement techniques and in-situ seed cleaning and conservation work.<\/p>\n\n
Morning (about 3-4 hours)<\/h3>\n\n\n- Introduction:<\/strong> why seedsavers? the reasons behind the birth of a planetary movement <\/li>\n\n\n\n
- Seed reproduction: <\/strong>outlines of botany and methods of pollination of various plant families<\/li>\n\n\n\n
- The varieties <\/strong>“in purity” or “in heterogeneous mixture\/evolving population”<\/li>\n\n\n\n
- Nursery techniques<\/strong> to produce the vegetables from which we would like to take seeds<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n
Afternoon<\/h3>\n\n\n- The selection<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n
- General methods<\/strong> of seed collection, cleaning, storage<\/li>\n\n\n\n
- In-depth study of specific seed retrieval techniques<\/strong> for each agreed upon variety<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n
Alice Pasin,<\/strong> landscape architect, farmer. She has been experimenting and teaching self-sowing seeds for years. If you would like and already have a vegetable garden, bring a map\/design of your garden to look at with Alice for design advice. If you already reproduce seeds and want to bring them we can share and exchange them! <\/strong><\/p>\n\nThe course will cost 25\u20ac and will be confirmed if there are at least 10 participants. Lunch can be held at the circolino, with 10\u20ac offering us first and second course and a glass of wine. <\/p>\n\n
