10 Years of Resistance – the birthday of Mondeggi Bene Comune

They generally like round figures: they give a sense of completeness, fulfillment, sometimes even stability. Mondeggi Bene Comune celebrating its first ten years of existence and garrison on the ground is a resilient anomaly, a tension that not even years in double digits have been able to dilute. Scenarios change: yesterday the specter of alienation, today a redevelopment project to be managed and directed; bodies and faces change: some have grown up, some have grown old, some have decided to change their ways and some we have said goodbye to for the last time, while someone in Mondeggi has even seen the light and now discovers the world by looking at it from this hill. There remain to remind us where we are the vineyards to be pruned, the boundless olive groves, the trees we planted, the stones removed by hand from the fields; there remain the people, near and far, today as yesterday capable of invading with joy and determination a common good that all have decided to give to all. Each involved in a plot that stretches out embracing plants, animals and humans without distinction of merit, ecologically complicit in co-managing a portion of territory to ferry it into the future, intact and healthy. They all took it on their shoulders, supported it and kept it afloat in rough waters, saving it from drowning in the abyss of privatization; sometimes with momentum and enthusiasm, other times with toil and sacrifice.
These first ten years have served to demonstrate how valuable and resilient this open collaboration has been, reminding us that together we are much more than the cold sum of ourselves.
The hope for the next ones is to preserve and expand this amalgam yet again, held together by that strange collective tension, a bit magical after all, that allows dreams to be translated into the alphabet of the everyday.
There is a time to struggle, there is a time to build, now is the time to celebrate!
