Fighting antimicrobial resistance in animal farming
On October 22 at Fattoria Pulicaro Study: free visit. We will talk about agroecological practices to promote the microbiome in the chicken, laying hens and pigs farming in silvopastoral systems.
Booking required.
Fattoria Pulicaro promotes the health and welfare of farm animals through the selection of hardy breeds, continuous access to outdoor areas and pastures, the use of compost bedding, and a balanced human–animal relationship based on knowledge of and respect for animal ethology. This approach has enabled the farm to eliminate the use of antibiotics.
The adoption of a multifunctional farming model, integrating agritourism activities and short supply chains, enhances the value of the farm’s products while strengthening its connection with the local area.
During the field visit, practical techniques for managing compost bedding for chickens, laying hens and pigs farming will be demonstrated. The visit will also highlight the importance of genetic diversity in breed selection and of fostering relationships between animals and farmers that respect the behavioural needs of each species.
