MOVING TOWARDS THE APPENNINE PACT – SECOND ROUND OF DISCUSSIONS Sunday, 29 January 2023 – Bisaboga – Montasico – (BO)
The autumn of 2022 saw us repeatedly rallying, in the streets and piazzas, as well as in classrooms and conference halls where we further explored and debated. The demonstration on 22 October in Bologna strengthened a bond built over many months from crest to crest in the Apennines, and strengthened our conviction that resisting means building.
We told ourselves that we want to increase our connections and complicity from one crest to the next, and to smuggle convergence of interests. On 4 December, we met in Campi Bisenzio, in the very place where the GKN Factory Collective had turned into an outpost for all of those who see in the social and ecological crisis the overall challenge to be faced in order to overturn the imbalances and defend the future and dignity of each and every one of us. We have done this starting with a text (disponibile qui) that has many suggestions, and mentions some practical ones. The desire to create spaces, and the uncertainty of how to do it; the determination to experiment with solutions and innovations, and the apprehension of re-proposing a ritual; with the conviction that we have many tools, and the feeling that none are really adequate for the challenge we want to set ourselves.
The Pact of the Apennines would like to be the forum in which to continue to unite 17 months of permanent assembly in Gkn, the march on 26 March in Florence, the ecological and social protests in Bologna, the networks for food sovereignty, the student movement, the protest against war and against patriarchy. It is not an organisational perimeter but a space for convergence, insurgence, and for building a collective imagination and a ruling class from below. It is where to prepare new ‘keep yourselves free’, but also an explosion of converging practices and discussions.
This is a dialogue we want to continue. A confrontation in which to try to bring together the many experiences that, between Florence and Bologna, cross neighbourhoods and valleys, social spaces and districts, factories and classrooms, cultivating the ambition of giving life to a trans-territorial social space that can produce social and climatic justice Therefore, we invite anyone who is interested to contribute to the discussion with a new round of discussion and debate towards the Apennine Pact.
