Rare Food and Landscapes

Bicycle journey through agricultural Italy

Giampiero Mazzocchi is a researcher at CREA (Council for Research in Agriculture and the Analysis of Agricultural Economics), where he works on agri-food systems analysis, agricultural and rural development policies, generational turnover and agriculture in inland areas.

These are all issues with which we are familiar and which in some cases have been the focus of the assembly working tables. This is also why when Federica Luoni and Franco Ferroni, coordinators of #CambiamoAgricoltura, asked us to lend Giampiero a hand in planning the travel itineraries, we jumped at the chance and asked members and friends of WWOOF and Rete Semi Rurali for their willingness to welcome him for a visit to their rural realities and, where possible, to offer him shelter for a night.

The goal is to (re)build a sincere and patient narrative of Italian agricultural landscapes understood as the result of the daily actions of women farmers, animals, children, the elderly, women and men of our territories.

You can find the presentation of the project on the Coalition’s website pages and follow its progress stage by stage on the public Facebook pages

Rassecale, the story

At Rassecale (Mirabella Eclano, AV) we were welcomed by a young community, now undergoing renovation but still with many projects to come: Marco and Pauline are running their wonderful vegetable garden, Marina has moved from Spain to help with the animals. Arrived here as a WWOOFer, her story is a testimonial of how impactful our association can be on agricultural practice and people’s life.
