There are hundreds of thousands of abandoned agricultural hectares in Italy. Spaces that could host productive forests. Regenerate soil. Protect biodiversity. Slow erosion. Retain water. Absorb carbon dioxide. Instead we let them rot. We tell ourselves we are sustainable, but we lack a green policy. A policy capable of linking environment, development and future. We lack a culture of the forest. Not the romantic cult of the walk among the pines, but the idea that a tree is part of the economy. Part of public health. Part of civic education.”
