Bread, Tradition, and Community: What Awaits You
One of the most beloved events in the local tradition is returning to Florence: the Fierucola del Pane, now in its 43rd edition. On Sunday, September 6, from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., Piazza SS. Annunziata will be filled with authentic aromas, artisanal expertise, and organic farm products.
An issue entirely dedicated to the farmers who grow wheat and bake bread that is delicious, easy to digest, and environmentally friendly.
What’s New and What You’ll Find in the Square
- Ancient Grains and Evolving Populations: Learn more about what evolving grain populations are and their value for biodiversity and health.
- Unique tastings: Try Gentil Pasta (made with unrefined Gentile semolina, which is easier to digest) and our assorted breads made with blends of grains and legumes.
- Organic and Handcrafted Goods Market: Stalls featuring local organic farm products and traditional, beautiful, and practical handcrafted items.
The Day’s Schedule
- 9:30 a.m. – “L’anima sciocca” City Walk: Organized by Tempo Nomade, this beautiful walking tour takes you past historic gates, churchyards, and convents to rediscover bread as a symbol of culture. - 10:00 a.m. – Stalls Open: Official openingof the Fierucola del Pane in Piazza SS. Annunziata.
- 11:00 a.m. & 4:00 p.m. – SMAC Project and Tastings: Presentationof the project by Rete Semi Rurali, featuring a guided tasting of assorted breads.
- 11:45 a.m. – Florence Organic District: A meetingdedicated to the Florence Organic District and local sustainability.
- 12:00 p.m. – Bread-Making Workshop: Let’s get our hands in the dough! A hands-on family bread-making workshop open to everyone.
- 3:00 p.m. – Book Presentation: “Pane Buono”A meeting with author Luca Martinelli to present the book “Pane Buono. A Journey Through Italy’s New Artisan Bakeries” (by Laura Filios and Luca Martinelli, Altreconomia): stories and experiences of young people who bake quality bread using local ingredients.
- 5:00 p.m. – Folk Music, Songs, and Dances: A festivalin the square with live music bythe Orchestrina del Progresso —come sing and dance along!
