We gladly share this initiative conceived by the City of Florence and the Florence CR Foundation and led by the Rural Seeds Network and the Tuscan Horticultural Society.

The F’ORTI! Project was created with the main objective of creating spaces for citizens to meet and relate through participation in an urban and community horticulture project unique to the city of Florence. All of the identified vegetable areas within public spaces and gardens (in each of the city’s neighborhoods), at the end of a social animation process, will be entrusted to citizen groups, associations and informal realities that will transform them into places of sociability and sharing. Citizens and townspeople will then have the opportunity to experience urban greenery and proactively care for it by increasing their awareness of environmental and social sustainability issues, disseminating knowledge and knowledge related to tradition and innovation, and building bridges and inclusiveness among diversity.

SUMMARY OF THE OBJECTIVES OF THE PROJECT F’ORTI!

  • To make areas available to citizens for the cultivation of mainly horticultural plants for social, recreational, educational and environmental purposes;
  • Enhance public green spaces by improving the usability of places;
  • To support agroecological food production and cultivation of traditional/local vegetable plants by spreading good cultivation practices and techniques.
