If the new GMOs (called NGTs or TEAs in Italy) are deprived of traceability and methods of identification and detection, small farms and seed companies in Italy are at risk of closing: 16 organizations denounce this.

On July 5, 2023, the European Commission adopted a legislative proposal to deregulate new GMOs, disguised behind the acronyms NGTs (New Genomic Techniques) in English, TEAs (Tecniche di Evoluzione Assistita) in Italian, to mislead citizens and farmers and inhibit their historic opposition toward genetic engineering applied to our food.

European proposals on seed legislation and new GMOs published
As expected, the proposal on new GMOs exempts them from the risk assessment process and the traceability and labeling requirement currently in place for all GMOs, whether old or new generation.
