respect, trust, confrontation
The relationship between Host and WWOOFer is based on respect and trust, on the comparison of their respective needs and expectations. Although this relationship is conditioned by the current “emergency legislation” that imposes further restrictions on work and voluntary activities, the freedom to relate without prejudice of any kind is showing that it is possible to welcome diversity as a possibility of growth. We are aware of how many people are approaching WWOOF today also because they are driven by emergency situations and economic, work and social difficulties: the movement is proving to be a place of welcome for these new WWOOFers and for those who continue to seek healthier lifestyles. We are also aware of how much within the association the “emergency legislation” is faced with very different positions and how much everyone’s daily life is often affected in a different way.
That’s why we continue to call for respect for different sensitivities and the exercise of free will. To date, most members seem to have shared this recommendation and relations between members appear to be proceeding in a context of mutual trust and clarity.
We all have to be aware of the rules imposed by the decrees in the field of volunteering and the risks involved in conscientious objection to obligations. In any case the association believes it is necessary to allow hosts the freedom to take their precautions in a free and shared manner, seeking the greatest possible clarity in establishing agreements: this is the approach we defend and believe to be the healthiest in bringing the greatest benefits to people’s quality of life.
