dignity and work at the heart
Alberta Cardinali from Rete Gas Marche and Gas Montimar talks about his meeting with Dambe So and SOS Rosarno during his trip to Calabria.
“P”Let me preface this by saying that as a “gasist,” I have for years stood alongside SOS Rosarno, the workers, the producers, and those who, through labor, do political and social activism in a territory occupied by the apparatuses of the state and the mafias. This short story stems from my long-standing desire to go to Calabria, to see the Gioia Tauro Plain, to get to know the places and the people behind the boxes of oranges that arrive in Senigallia and that smell of dignity, of resilient and courageous work for change. I went there bringing the eyes of my Gas, my Regional Network and to return to them what I would see and hear. For me, vacations are a privilege, but also a responsibility, to which I would make the choice of where to stay, where to eat, what to take home and what to leave behind. In that part of Calabria I left a piece of my heart, but I brought home so much more.”
