EU commssion sidesteps the issue
Reintroduce pesticides into agricultural policies: 260,000 EU citizens demand it.
A quarter of a million Europeans have signed a new petition urging the European Commission to prioritize pesticide reduction. The petition was unveiled today ahead of hearings by the next Commissioners.
The petition was led by environmental activist platforms Ekō and WeMove, in collaboration with Pesticide Action Network Europe. In less than three months, more than 260,000 people have signed the petition.
Natalija Svrtan of PAN Europe points out that: “The support reflects public demand for decisive action to stop the use of harmful pesticides and promote sustainable agricultural practices. Citizens routinely express their concern about the impact of pesticides on public health and the environment through petitions, European Citizens Initiatives (ECIs) or public opinion surveys (Eurobarometers) “.
