Why WWOOFing

by | Jan 19, 2025 | Blog, Interviews, Our members

Why should a farm do WWOOFing, and how? Why does a WWOOFer choose to have this experience? Possible answers to these questions can be found in this article that appeared in agronotizie. Our host Sara and our traveler Irene tell about their experience of sharing, learning, and friendship. Happy reading.

“Perhaps, the greatest goal of an initiative such as Wwoof is to educate and inspire young people (and even the not-so-young) to understand how the food we eat is grown.

And Sara herself explains it to us, who as of May 2024 has hosted seven people of different nationalities (Japan, Israel, Holland, Germany, and Italy) together with Daniele at Podere Cimbalona: “We put ourselves on the platform mainly to give young people a chance to learn about regenerative agriculture. For us it is a chance to allow them to gain experience. We offer the possibility of internships and other ways, but certainly the streamlined bureaucracy of wwoofing makes it more immediate.”

Initially I experienced it more as an opportunity to travel and learn about a new way of life related to nature. Not coming from a farming family and having zero experience in the countryside was really a launch. Then, at various stages of my life, it took on different meanings. More and more wwoofing has become a kind of training school because, unlike a course that is generally very theoretical, it gives you the opportunity to experience what is in all respects, and in practice, a farming experience. In the last period I wanted to train myself onregenerative agriculture , and the Wwoof approach seemed to be the only approach with which I could become part of this system.”
