Seeds, biodiversity, community, and sustainable food: these are all terms that sound very familiar in the WWOOF world, and they are the very themes that will be explored during the “Seminiamo futuro” event in the upper Modena Apennines. Gathered around a table in the morning, and around many tables in the afternoon, will be the numerous organizations with which we’ve collaborated over the years and that have accompanied us on our journey: from Rete Semi Rurali to Deafal, from Let’s Liberate Diversity to Microfarm, from RAN to Civiltà Contadina.

We’ll be there with an information stand to introduce the association to those who aren’t yet familiar with it, and our member Enrico Bocchi (the driving force behind the Seminasiepi project) will offer some practical tips on how we can, right here and now, sow the seeds of the future—by propagating native species from seed, for example. Together with Claudio Pozzi (who founded WWOOF Italia), we’ll then take a journey through the long process that begins with the seed and ends on our tables.

If, on September 20—once the grape harvest is over and as we await the olive harvest—you’d like to join us in addressing today’s challenges in natural farming, and together explore strategies and draw inspiration from others’ practices, join us at Seminare Futuro in Treppi di Acquaria, during the final days of a summer that has reminded us all too clearly just how urgent it is to act now to reverse course. If the entire tree is sick, perhaps it is precisely from its best seeds that we must begin anew.
