Italia says YES to permit renewal

Italia says YES to permit renewal for weedkiller for one more year, while France, Germany and Slovenia abstained and therfore not making the qualified majority for the extension of the deadline scheduled for next December 15. What will be the position of the new national government?

A decision by the European Union’s Standing Committee on Plants, Animals, Food and Animal Feed (PAFF) to extend for one year the authorization for glyphosate that expires next Dec. 15 has been postponed by another month. The meeting last Oct. 14 lacked a favorable qualified majority to grant a one-year extension for the use of this pesticide. The abstention of Germany, France and Slovenia was decisive; Italy, however voted in favor of the extension, belying its position against the use of glyphosate.
