Raw earth brick construction – theory and practice

Location:

The initiative will take place at theAmorlife company at Mappa in the municipality of Mussomeli (CL) Sicily.

This camp includes atwo-day theoretical and practical workshop on the use of raw earth in green building.

The remaining days will be devoted to the creation of unfired earth bricks using the “adobe” technique
The workshop will be taught by Iranian architect Afshin Firozi, an expert in green building.

These days will study the properties, characteristics and thus the performance of the materials used. Specifically, the “adobe” construction technique from the construction of the wooden mold to the creation of the finished brick will be explored. The ultimate short-term goal is to make 7,000 bricks as the final product. An average of 70 bricks per person per day created with the mold. Another field for brick laying and edification of a house will follow in spring 2024.

Accommodation:

Tent accommodation in an area set up for camping near the main house.
Two showers with hot water (one indoor in the shared bathroom and one outdoor) will be provided.

It is advisable to bring your own tent: for those who do not have the possibility, some tents will be set up for sharing.

Normal cooperation in daily activities essential to the smooth running of the work camp is required : cleaning of common areas, cooperation in preparing shared meals, garden management.
