What are earthworms for? Why are they so important that they were already mentioned a hundred years ago during the first biodynamic agriculture course?

Earthworms perform a physical and organic action in the soil. They dig tunnels which are used by the roots of plants. In the tunnels, water and nutrients accumulate. Earthworms release manure rich in very important microorganisms for the soil and precious soluble mineral salts. Pages would not be enough to list the useful effects of the presence of earthworms in the soil.
