Mondeggi bene comune project promoting agroecology

The project “From seed to bread, back to working the land” is an initiative carried out by the association Mondeggi bene comune since 2014. This organization works to stop the privatization of public lands by promoting agroecology projects both in the Florence area and in other parts of Italy.

The goal of the fundraiser is to purchase a combine harvester and excavator. The combine will be used to harvest and increase grain production within the farm and surrounding fields. This will emancipate farmers from the monocultures of vineyards and olive groves that characterize the area.
The excavator, on the other hand, will be used to remove the many stones in the fields, which are currently removed manually through collective work days. In addition, it will be used to repair old fences to limit the access of ungulates, which cause damage to production.

Another important goal of this project is the construction of an innovative composting center. This will allow farm waste and participants’ household waste to be turned into fertilizer resources for the fields.
The fundraising campaign is currently running on Productions from Below and has a deadline of January 27, 2024.
