Pasturs 2026: Become a guardian of the highlands in the International Year of Pastures

by | May 8, 2026 | Blog, from our networks

The year 2026 is not just another year for those who love rural life. The United Nations has declared it the International Year of Pastures and Shepherds, a vital recognition for those who, every day, preserve fragile landscapes and age-old traditions.

In this very special context, we are happy to announce that Pasturs is starting again with its 11th edition!
Pasturs is a project created to mitigate the conflict between large predators (such as wolves and bears) and livestock activity in the Bergamo (Orobie) mountains. But it is much more than that: it is an active volunteer experience that allows you to live side-by-side with shepherds during the summer pasture.

Why participate if you are a WWOOFer?

If WWOOF’s philosophy is learning through sharing daily life on the farm, Pasturs takes this concept to high altitude. As a volunteer, you will be able to:

  • Supporting biodiversity: Helping with the management of protection dogs and the erection of electrified fences.
  • Experience the mountain pasture: Experience the rhythms of transhumance and life at high altitude, far from the hustle and bustle of the city.
  • Raising awareness: Helping tourists understand the importance of coexistence between humans and large predators.

How the 2026 edition works

The project seeks motivated people who love the mountains and are ready to get involved. It is not a vacation, but a total immersion in pastoral reality.

Practical note: Volunteers will receive specific training before going up to altitude to be ready to support the pastors effectively and safely.
